Ready, Set, Vote! Preparing Snapchatters for the 2024 US Elections

Ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections, today we're sharing how we'll empower Snapchatters to engage in the election process and ensure that Snapchat remains a space for accurate and helpful information.
Civic Engagement
At Snapchat, we believe that exercising one’s right to vote is one of the most powerful forms of self-expression. As a platform with significant reach with U.S. voters — of the 100M+ Snapchatters we reach in the U.S., over 80% are aged 18 or older1 — we want to make it as easy as possible for our community to learn about the issues and register to vote.
In 2016 we first started providing Snapchatters with in-app resources to learn about local issues and civic engagement. In 2018, we helped over 450,000 Snapchatters register to vote, in 2020, we helped 1.2 million Snapchatters register to vote and 30 million access voting information, and ahead of the last U.S. midterm election, we helped 4 million people learn about opportunities to run for office themselves.
In 2024, we are continuing our commitment to help our community stay civically engaged: In partnership with Vote.org, we’re launching in-app tools to make voter engagement even more seamless. This will allow Snapchatters to check their registration status, register to vote, sign up for election reminders, and make a plan for Election Day – all without leaving the app.
Election Content on Snapchat
To provide Snapchatters with more access to accurate information, we are once again covering the election on Snapchat. Our flagship news show Good Luck America has provided political news to Snapchatters since 2016, and this year, it will continue to offer perspectives and explanations around key election events through November.
Good Luck America will cover the biggest moments from the campaign trail — including rallies from the leading presidential candidates, coverage of the upcoming national conventions, and Election Day itself. The show will also launch a new series: the Good Luck America Campus Tour, which will travel to colleges and universities in battleground states, including HBCUs and community colleges, to hear how young people are feeling about the election and the issues they care most about.
We also have a range of trusted media partners that will provide election coverage on Snapchat. As the anchor of our partnered news coverage, NBC News’ Stay Tuned will present 24 on ’24, a series featuring 24 key voices that will help shape the 2024 election, speaking with Gen Z voters in local, state, and federal elections about the core issues that resonate with them. Throughout the 2024 election cycle, Stay Tuned will also feature on-the-ground coverage of key events including conventions, rallies, speeches, and more.
Content Moderation and Political Ads
This year we will remain vigilant in providing Snapchatters credible news and information. We continue to partner with vetted media outlets and restrict the ability for misinformation to spread by moderating public content before it can be seen by lots of people.
We also vet political ads through a rigorous human review process, which involves checking for any misleading use of content, including the use of AI to create deceptive images. In addition, we partner with the nonpartisan Poynter Institute to independently fact-check political ad statements. Furthermore, we employ a registration and certification process to vet potential purchasers of political ads. You can learn more about our ongoing work to safeguard the integrity of civic content on Snapchat here.
We’re committed to playing our part to encourage civic engagement and are excited to work alongside our partners to provide our community with the tools and information they need to make their voices heard this fall.
