How Visionaries Are Bringing SPECS to Life

SPECS augmented reality glasses are designed to bring computing into the world around you. Kaia Gerber, Jimmy Butler, Jack Harlow, Hoyeon and Imogen Heap have been working with our engineering and creative teams to bring their ideas to life with SPECS through their own passions and creative practices.

Today, we’re introducing the experiences developed through these collaborations, from the books they love and games they grew up with, to the ways they unwind, find inspiration, and make music. Together, these Lenses offer a glimpse at how SPECS makes technology more personal, expressive and connected.

Kaia Gerber started her book club, Library Science, to uplift underrepresented authors and help readers discover their next great read. Her love for reading inspired her SPECS Lens, which introduces new ways to engage with physical books, using digital tools. You can easily save favorite quotes, look up definitions, annotate, and explore background context all without losing your place.

On the basketball court, Jimmy Butler is a six-time All-Star. Off the court, he unwinds with dominoes, a game he fell in love with as a kid, watching his dad play with neighbors. That sense of competition, ritual and connection has stayed with him ever since, and it’s what he wanted to bring to SPECS. His Dominoes Lens transforms virtually any flat surface into a place to play, whether with old friends, new friends or on your own.

Hoyeon turns to meditation to find a sense of calm and rhythm in her busy days, often drawing inspiration from the places and memories that help her feel most grounded. Her SPECS Meditation Garden Lens brings some of that world to life in AR. As you move through breathing and mindfulness exercises, flowers inspired by her mother and the landscapes surrounding her favorite temples in Korea begin to bloom around you.

For Jack Harlow, film has always been more than a way to pass the time: it’s a source of inspiration, escape and creative energy. That love of storytelling stays with him even when life is constantly moving, from tour stops to long stretches on the road. With SPECS, movies and TV can move with you too, making it easier to settle into something you love wherever you happen to be.

Imogen Heap has long pushed at the boundaries of how music can be made, using technology to make creativity feel more intuitive, expressive and human. With SPECS, she explores what happens when the body itself becomes an instrument. Her Sound Space Lens transforms natural movements into sound, letting you create, mix and loop music through spatial instruments controlled entirely by your hands and voice.

Together, these experiences show how SPECS make computing more human by enhancing the things people care about. Whether that’s deeper engagement with physical books, playing a game with friends, slowing down for a minute, getting lost in a movie, or making something new, SPECS offer incredible new ways to interact with the world around you.

The best way to truly understand SPECS is to try them on. Beginning October 1, the SPECS First Look will be available at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles. There, you can experience SPECS in person, meet members of the team, and check out what we’re building. As more experiences become available, the SPECS First Look will evolve, with new content and reasons to come back throughout the entire holiday season.
