This week, the world's greatest athletes will gather in Paris to compete on the grandest stage of all — the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Here is how fans from every corner of the globe can follow the excitement as it builds using Snapchat.
To ensure fans experience the thrill and unity of the Games, no matter where they are, fans can get closer to the action through official broadcasters’ highlights, creator content, unique augmented reality experiences, and more.
Official broadcasters of the Olympic Games, including NBCUniversal and WBD, are bringing official highlights for fans to get close to athlete action. Furthermore, NBCUniversal will enable content creators to provide a unique perspective of the Olympics and Team USA.
Augmented Reality Experiences
This summer, and for the first time ever, fans can experience the Games on a scale like never before through augmented reality on Snapchat. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and a number of commercial partners have launched a series of highly immersive AR experiences on Snapchat to inspire, engage, and excite. For the millions of those watching around the world, the IOC-rights-holding broadcasters and Olympic partners are leaning on the power of AR to build a stronger shared experience for our global community.
Snapchat Cam, powered by Snap AR’s Camera Kit technology, will present AR experiences for spectators attending the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris across 30 venues to experience the action together and see themselves transformed on the jumbotrons alongside their friends and family.
A range of experiences powered by Snap’s AR Camera Kit technology is available through the official app of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as well as on Snapchat. Featuring Olympic data feeds, IOC archival imagery, and more, the IOC has launched a series of AR Lenses to serve fans at home and around the world to ensure everyone feels connected to the Games. For example, in celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the last time the Olympics took place in Paris, fans on the ground can see the city around them transform to 1924 Paris, while fans globally can use the Lens to transport back to 1924 Yves-du-Manoir stadium.
The IOC also added a unique AR interaction to the official poster of the Games, which comes to life when scanned and is also available to fans globally via the official app of the Games and on the IOC’s official Snapchat profile.
Arcadia, Snapchat’s AR Studio, has partnered with NBCUniversal to bring a suite of exciting AR experiences to immerse Gen Z fans in the US, bringing them front row to the Opening Ceremony, giving them personalized tune-in recommendations complete with real-time stats, and introducing them to Team USA athletes and their Bitmojis, including Team USA Paralympians (e.g. Track & Field star Ezra Frech):
Coca-Cola and Snapchat are also bringing attendees the world’s first AR vending machine. Found in the athletes’ village and Coca-Cola’s international Food Fest, the machine is powered by a custom Snapchat AR mirror and provides photo ops, games, and prizes, as well as Coca-Cola’s beloved refreshments.
Content
For the first time ever, and in collaboration with NBCUniversal, we’re bringing creators to the Olympic Games to capture and share their unique experiences and stories from the Games. What’s more, our partnership with NBCUniversal ensures official highlights, daily wrap-up shows, and behind-the-scenes content will be available on Snapchat throughout the games:
