New, Yet Nostalgic: Introducing Comic Bitmoji
Bitmoji has always been about helping people express themselves in ways words can’t. Since its earliest days as a playful comic strip builder, it’s grown into a global phenomenon and Bitmoji is used by over 320 million people globally every day. Today, Bitmoji is woven into so many of the ways we connect both on and off of Snapchat — from profiles and Snap Map, to AR Lenses and stickers in Chat, text or even email.
As our community and the digital world have evolved, so has Bitmoji. In 2023, we launched a new 3D avatar across Snapchat, unlocking the most customizable features yet, from diverse body types and hairstyles to richer details like makeup, and freckles. These upgrades gave Snapchatters more ways than ever to represent themselves.
But we also know that many in our community feel a deep affinity for their original Avatar, and are nostalgic for the 2D Comic style. In fact, thousands of Snapchatters even petitioned us to bring it back. We listened.
Meet Comic Bitmoji: Over the coming days, Snapchat+ subscribers will be able to turn on Comic Bitmoji — a new style that brings back the charm of classic avatars, while keeping all the benefits of today’s 3D infrastructure. Think of it like a filter for your avatar: the same customization and expressions you love, reimagined to be reminiscent of that iconic comic-inspired look. This setting will allow subscribers to see all Bitmoji avatars in their app in 2D, and send Stickers to their friends that reflect their selected style.
For Snapchatters, Bitmoji isn’t just an avatar. It’s your digital identity, the way you show up with friends, share your moods, and represent yourself online. With Comic Bitmoji, we’re giving you more choice in how you express yourself, whether that’s embracing the latest 3D styles or throwing it back to the look that started it all.
