Spotlighting the First Lenses Built by the Spectacles Developer Community

We introduced the fifth generation of Spectacles and our brand new operating system Snap OS last month at our annual Snap Partner Summit. The following day at Lens Fest, a group of Lens developers, creators, and enthusiasts received Spectacles and a developer program subscription to begin their exploration of the platform.

We have been amazed to see the Lenses developers have built in just a few short weeks. Developers have already built Lenses that help our community master the art of calligraphy, make better shots in pool, and turn outdoor walks into interactive adventures. With the world as their canvas, there are endless possibilities of what developers can create to help our community learn, play, and work.

Here are a few of our favorites, along with first-hand takeaways from the developers themselves! Join the Spectacles Developer Program today at https://www.spectacles.com/lens-studio.

“Origami is a mysterious paper art, and I love the idea of creating volumetric shapes out of flat pieces of paper as it resonates with my profession as an architect. Spectacles can subtly deliver desired information in AR that simplifies any experience by making it more user-friendly, natural, and comfortable. And because for origami you need both hands, the hand based operating system of Spectacles made it the perfect fit.”

“Lens Studio feels so effortless and lightweight that it can be used to build pretty much any AR experience for the new Spectacles, and Spectacles themselves have a slim but cohesive form factor with the right feature set to let me build without roadblocks. We started with Calligraphy, as we've tried to build for this use case multiple times on other platforms, but it never quite worked. Ready-to-reuse assets helped me build the complete flow and start writing in no time.”

Pool Assist by Studio ANRK

"Building for Spectacles has been delightful, especially as a rapid prototyper. The platform makes it incredibly easy to get up and running, allowing us to quickly bring our creative ideas to life, iterate, and then develop more in depth. We love how Spectacles allow us to rethink the way we interact with public spaces, by adding tangible effects to real-world objects. The idea behind Pool Assist came from seeing short guides on how to play pool on social media, and we thought, why not bring that detail to life in real time for people in AR?"

“As Team ZapChat at the 2024 hackathon, we developed an augmented reality experience using Spectacles that teaches everyday people how to use an epinephrine injector (EpiPen) in emergencies. With only 16% of EpiPen users able to demonstrate correct usage, we intentionally focused on consumers, not medical professionals. We want to use augmented reality and Spectacles to empower anyone to confidently handle these tools, and are passionate about a world where everyone is equipped to use them when it matters most.”

RPG by Aidan Wolf

“RPG is inspired by childhood adventures with my brothers and sister, where a stick in hand and a little imagination could turn the forest into a realm of magic and monsters. To this day I walk everywhere, and to have a game I could play along the way, outside and under the sun, sounded like the perfect way to reconnect with my inner child. When I combined this nostalgia with a fitness-oriented step counter, I suddenly saw a product that wasn’t just cool, but one I could actually imagine using Spectacles for everyday.”
