Introducing Expanded Arrival Notifications on Snap Map

Since launching Home Safe, more than 1 million Snapchatters have already used the feature to alert a friend that they arrived back home safely. Now, timed to Safer Internet Day tomorrow, we’re expanding on Home Safe to offer improved functionality and new ways for Snapchatters to use location sharing on Snap Map to stay connected on the go. Our new Arrival Notifications now allow you to set more flexible alerts that fit your personal routine.

Snapchatters can set one-time or recurring alerts for places beyond their home, offering a simple, automatic way to share when they’ve arrived where they are going. Arrival Notifications now work for everyday moments — like letting someone know you’re back for the night while traveling, or automatically sharing when you arrive at a weekly class, practice, or meeting — without needing to remember to send a message.

These arrival notifications make it simple to let someone know you’ve arrived at your destination safely after being out and about, whether you’re heading back from a first date, a crowded concert, or a weekend getaway.

As always, arrival notifications are built with safety and privacy in mind. Alerts can only be sent to friends you choose to share your location with, and location sharing on Snap Map is off by default. No one can see your location or receive an alert unless you choose to share it. If you’ve selected a one-time alert, it will expire once it’s sent or after 24 hours.

Getting started is easy

  • Share your location with a trusted friend you’d like to keep in the loop.

  • Tap on your friendship profile and scroll down to ‘arrival notifications.’

  • Pick a location on the map, and give it a personal name for you, for example, set the location of your ‘run club’ meet or the location for ‘piano lessons.’

  • Choose a one-time or recurring alert, and we’ll notify your friend when you arrive.

Snap Map is one of the most popular maps on mobile, with more than 400 million people using it every month to connect with friends and family and explore nearby places. With expanded arrival notifications, we’re excited to offer Snapchatters another simple way to stay in touch with the people they trust while on the go.
